Tualatin Veterans Plaza is a new lakefront memorial dedicated to honor, reflection and community in Tualatin, Oregon. Led by Shapiro Didway Landscape Architecture, the design transforms the east edge of the Tualatin Commons into a meaningful public space, one that welcomes ceremony, quiet moments and everyday visits with equal care. A circular gathering area, artful stone landforms and a gently rippling reflection pool come together to create a place that feels both grounded in nature and deeply symbolic.

Our Studio 431 custom division was responsible for the signature semicircular precast benches that define the heart of the plaza. Surrounding the reflection pool in a graceful arc, the monolithic benches are crafted in precast concrete with an acid-etch finish and supported by powdercoated carbon steel legs. Stainless steel skate deterrents complete the installation with a bead-blasted finish for subtlety and durability. The benches form the primary seating gesture of the memorial space—simple, strong and intentionally quiet to maintain focus on the reflection pool, flag and surrounding art elements.

Delivered under a tight project timeline, the work showcases Studio 431’s ability to execute precise forms that integrate seamlessly and artfully within a broad landscape design. As the team’s first collaboration with Shapiro Didway, Veterans Plaza establishes a strong foundation for future partnerships rooted in craft, coordination and shared purpose.
