Landscape Forms, North America’s leading designer and manufacturer of high-design site furniture, structure, lighting and accessories, announces its commitment to achieve 100% clean electricity across its flagship Kalamazoo campus by 2030. The milestone is directly enabled by the company’s 300,000-square-foot campus expansion, currently underway and scheduled to open in late 2027, which has been intentionally designed to operate as a clean electricity campus from day one.

“Our target is to operate on 100% clean electricity by 2030,” says Landscape Forms Sustainability Leader, Amy Syverson-Shaffer. “That goal is closely tied to the new building. From the very beginning, we saw the campus expansion as an opportunity to take a bold step forward in our sustainability efforts, and it’s enabling us to do exactly that.”

The new facility is designed and engineered with a rooftop solar array installed on the south side of the expansion. This system will feed energy directly into production, with excess power returned to the grid. “We always knew solar would be a cornerstone of an ideal future campus,” Syverson-Shaffer continues. “Though we initially expected to phase the system in, we’re excited to be able to bring it online right when the facility opens.”

To reach 100% clean electricity, Landscape Forms is advancing two strategies: generating significant renewable energy onsite, and partnering with a local utility for additional, newly developed solar capacity nearby. All electricity supplied by the grid to campus will be certified through renewable energy credits.

The commitment aligns with the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Climate & Biodiversity Action Plan, which calls for a 50% reduction in emissions by 2030. After completing a comprehensive greenhouse gas emissions inventory, Landscape Forms determined that electricity historically accounted for the majority of its Scope 1 and Scope 2 operational emissions. Along with improvements to gain efficiency, transitioning to clean electricity positions the company to cut operational greenhouse gas emissions at least in half by 2030.

“This is a really important steppingstone for us,” Syverson-Shaffer says. “It’s a platform to stand on. After this, there’s a lot of hard work to do to move further down the path of decarbonization. It doesn’t end here. But this gives us momentum—and a really big win under our belt.”

Syverson-Shaffer emphasizes that achieving this milestone in a U.S. manufacturing context requires deliberate investment and infrastructure. “This isn’t something that’s simply there for the taking. It’s up to us as a modern manufacturer to build the capacity to do better, intentionally. That means stepping out in front and helping to lead our industry forward.”

As the expanded campus comes online, Landscape Forms will track and report performance to inform the next phase of its decarbonization efforts toward 2040 and beyond.

“Our commitment to clean electricity by 2030 reflects who we are as a company and how we believe manufacturing should evolve,” says Landscape Forms CEO, David Jackson. "As we invest in our campus, we’re investing in long-term stewardship, measurable climate action and a culture of continuous improvement. This milestone represents an important step forward and reinforces our belief that design and manufacturing excellence can advance hand-in-hand with environmental responsibility.”
