Founded on the principle “Begin with what’s left over, turn it into what will last,” American furniture maker Emeco has been crafting durable furniture from recycled aluminum for over 80 years. In the throes of World War II, the U.S. Navy needed a place to sit. Emeco took on the challenge and in 1944 the 1006 Navy Chair® was born. Built by hand at Emeco’s factory in Hanover, Pennsylvania, to withstand the tough life aboard ships and submarines, the chair was tested to last 150 years. It’s been in continuous production ever since. And as it turns out, what works for one demanding environment, also suits many, many others.
Today, Emeco keeps crafting furniture from recycled aluminum—what was once a wartime necessity is now a planet necessity.
