Landscape Forms Pledges $250,000 to Landscape Architecture Foundation 50 & Forward Campaign
Kalamazoo, MI – June 30, 2016 - Landscape Forms President, Richard Heriford, has announced a company pledge of $250,000 to 50 & Forward, the campaign marking the 50th anniversary of the Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF) and its new $3.5 million fundraising initiative. This special contribution is in addition to the company’s $250,000 5-year pledge in ongoing support of the LAF operating budget. LAF Executive Director, Barbara Deutsch, says, “Landscape Form’s leadership investment in LAF’s 50 & Forward campaign is truly remarkable. Its long and loyal support has been a game-changer for LAF. We would not be where we are today, nor be able to accomplish all that is ahead without this generous gift which is not only ensuring the campaign’s success, but inspiring others to join as well.”
In addition to its financial support, Landscape Forms actively collaborates with the LAF on programs and initiatives. Extreme Landscape Architecture (Xtreme LA), an annual co-sponsored, Landscape Forms-funded charette, brings together young landscape architects who are the future leaders of the profession and students from leading universities, under the mentorship of professional team leaders to address landscape, community and environmental issues in challenged communities. Outcomes are published by Landscape Forms in reports that are made publicly available. “Our relationship with the LAF goes back more than a quarter century during which we have partnered as a substantial contributor,” Heriford explains. “LAF is a platform for multi-generational participation and growth in the professional development of landscape architects. Landscape Forms wants to ensure that the profession thrives and that there is a place where outstanding individual contributions can be recognized -- and we want to help amplify the voice of landscape architecture within the larger community of designers of the built environment.”
The Washington DC-based Landscape Architecture Foundation was founded a half century ago to support the preservation, improvement and enhancement of the environment. Today, under the visionary leadership of Executive Director, Barbara Deutsch, it is the nexus of inquiry and innovation for the landscape architecture profession. The 50 & Forward campaign was launched at the LAF Summit on June 10, 2011 in Philadelphia. Attended by more than 700 professionals from around the world, including principals from major landscape architecture firms, academics, and institutional and government representatives, the Summit examined fifty years of landscape architecture achievement and set a robust agenda for addressing the environmental challenges facing the profession and the planet in the decades to come. The 50 & Forward campaign will enable LAF to expand its existing programs for research and scholarships by increasing stipends to Case Study Investigation (CSI) teams, strategically enhancing the Landscape Performance Series (LPS), and endowing $20,000 in new awards to students.
Additionally, LAF will create two new $25,000 long-term research grants, and $25,000 fellowships as part of a new leadership program for mid- and senior-level professionals. Richard Heriford, who serves on the LAF Board of Directors, concludes, ”Strong leadership is making LAF a force for the growth of the profession. The organization now has the vision, the tools, and the energy to make a real impact on how we shape our environment. Landscape Forms is proud to be a long-term supporter of that important work.”
